Monday Manna

I have decided to participate in Monday Manna from my friend Joanne and her blog An Open Book http://joannesher.blogspot.com/ Check it out -- great lady and a great blog!

......and from my friend Joanne here's what Monday Manna is all about.

The purpose of Monday Manna is to get together and get to know Christ more through His Word. For those of you unfamiliar, on the first and third Mondays of each month, anyone who wants to participate can post their thoughts on a specific verse. The verse is posted here at my blog on the Thursday before, to allow you to chew on it over the weekend. It doesn't have to be a long post -- just a few thoughts, a picture you feel helps express it, a poem, a short story, a devotional.I've chosen a verse this week from the Psalms that has me intrigued.

Serve the Lord with fear and rejoice with trembling. Psalm 2:11
I was told once that the way you view God as our Father can be based on how you view your own father. Having been raised by a strict, God-Fearing Father, I can say that I tend to view God in a similar way. Another words I have a healthy Fear of God... This can be good and bad--When you serve God its good to have respect and reverence for Him--This is good. Growing up
I tended to view God as a strong disciplinary and I had to make sure I was doing the right things a christian girl should do or I was in Trouble! That can be bad as it has made me struggle to learn and accept God's grace.
Yes let's serve God with a respectful fear and then we can tremble with excitement that we serve such a powerful and awesome God.
This has been Deb's Monday Manna contribution. Thanks Joanne for letting me participate. If you are interested please stop by Joanne's blog.

Deb, it can be very tough to overcome any less than perfect models of authority from our past.

God is, however, perfect and so He is above and beyond any father we could ever have on earth-no matter if was the best Dad in the world:-)

Great thoughts, Deb! It's so true that we see our Heavenly Fathers as our earthly Fathers were. And I love the idea of trembling as you described it.

Thanks for participating in Monday Manna!

Yes, I totally relate to this! It's taken me years to see that He is my Father, but He is also my Papa. Sounds like you are on the same track of discovery. Blessings, Sister!

Accepting God's grace--that is soooo important! And this: "Yes let's serve God with a respectful fear and then we can tremble with excitement that we serve such a powerful and awesome God." That's so true. One does lead to the other.

You are so right about needing to have a "healthy" fear of God, but still knowing He loves us regardless of what we do or don't do. Thanks for participating this week!

I relate to your thinking you had to do the right things as a child, as a Christian girl. However, I had an unhealthy fear of God. Learning that God is love has helped me a ton. He is worthy of my affection and praise!

Have a great Wednesday!

Debbie, Isn't it an amazing joy to understand how to have a 'healthy' fear of God - so that we can truly rejoice with trembling!

Love in Christ,
Teresa
